Samuel and Jessie Kenney, pioneers of Seattle in the late 1800s, bequeathed their estate “to found and maintain a home or retreat to be called The Samuel and Jessie Kenney Presbyterian Home.” From this visionary beginning, one of Seattle’s finest and most respected not-for-profit senior retirement residences was born in 1901.

The Mission of The Kenney is dedicated to life enhancement for the senior community. We provide health care, housing, and services which promote optimum health while preserving dignity

and respect in a Christian environment. In keeping with Samuel and Jessie's legacy, a Board of Directors approved by the Session of the West Side Presbyterian Church oversees operation of The Kenney.

    Death with Dignity, Initiative 1000

The Kenney is a Christian-principled service organization dedicated to life enhancement. We believe in and support the sanctity of life.

To the extent that The Kenney is considered a Health Care Provider under Washington State's Death with Dignity Act (Ch. 70.245 RCW), The Kenney has chosen not to participate under the Act. This means that The Kenney, its employees, independent contractors and volunteers shall not assist a resident in ending the resident's life. In addition, no provider may participate on the licensed premises of The Kenney.

The Kenney will assist residents by providing, upon request, information about the law and resources within the community. Should a resident choose to move to another health care community, The Kenney shall, upon the resident's request, provide a copy of relevant medical records to the new health care community.

The Kenney is committed to treating all individuals with dignity and respect; and to provide compassionate care of the dying and their families.
